Goal Setting – Embracing Fresh Starts with Reflection and Growth
Fresh starts bring opportunities for reflection, goal setting, and hope. Yet, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of aspirations we set for ourselves. If you’re feeling that way, you’re not alone.
Change is rarely easy, and achieving goals requires consistency, patience, and resilience. When the weight of it all feels like too much, one of the most powerful tools for mental wellbeing is self-study. Taking the time to explore new ideas, reflect, or invest in personal growth can have truly transformative effects.
The Power of Self-Study in Personal Growth
As a yoga teacher and practitioner, I often remind myself that yoga extends far beyond physical poses (asana). Yoga is a holistic practice that integrates the body, mind, and spirit. One of the key teachings in the Yoga Sutras is svadhyaya, or self-study. This practice encourages us to explore our inner and outer worlds with curiosity and compassion, deepening our understanding of ourselves and the world around us.
In my yoga classes, I incorporate many elements of yogic philosophy, including svadhyaya and breath work. I also weave in poems, mindfulness tips, and moments to connect with your heart. These practices are designed to help you grow and evolve, helping with goal setting and enabling you to become the best version of yourself.
A Book Recommendation to Kickstart Your Growth
Recently, I’ve been practicing svadhyaya by reading Mel Robbins’ latest book, Let Them. It’s an incredible read—in fact, I think it’s her best yet. Mel shares simple, actionable tools to help you take control of your life and stop getting bogged down by the little things that don’t truly matter. If you’re looking for inspiration or practical steps to focus on what truly counts, I highly recommend giving it a read.
Small Steps Toward Big Changes
As we embrace fresh beginnings, let’s remember that growth doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a journey, and every step—no matter how small—matters. Whether it’s exploring new books, attending a yoga class, or simply taking five minutes to breathe deeply, every effort you make to care for yourself counts.
